An Evensong for Christmas

by | Dec 21, 2022

Love

born this

day, In the City

of David. Born in the

depths of our humanity. Love

resounds; piercing hearts and minds. Hope

unfurled; overflowing in the disorientation of creation.

Living Water, the gift of Love poured out, quenches the thirsting

soul. Joy dwells within. Incarnate Love transfigures each life shining out

through everyday words and actions. Emmanuel! God with us lives justice,

mercy,

and peace.

May you and yours be anointed this week with Divine surprise as the Holy One born on the breath of Love fills each community, each individual, each living creation with hope, joy, love, and peace. Amen.

Blessed Christmas and joyous New Year, from Living Streams Flowing Water

The Scripture

This week we cherish in our hearts Mary’s birth narrative of Jesus. For me this comes from Luke 2:1-20. Yet for me also, when I read this familiar, yet, profound birthing of Love, I am reminded of Mary’s prayer when she first visited her cousin Elizabeth back in the beginning of her pregnancy. The magnificent, as Mary’s evensong has become known, resounds with the humility, power, might, hope, justice, peace, and mysterious Love of God. What is your prayer this Holy Week of Christmas birthing?

Today’s Prayer Practice

Today you are invited to create a prayer for Jesus’ birthing into our world, into your life, and into our nation this Christmas. Your prayer could be written, sung, created with mosaics, watercolors, colored pencils, or any mode of creation you desire. Enjoy creating your song of joy for Christmas birthing.

May it be so, as God creates new reality among humanity.
